Press Release from HomeStretch Non-Profit Housing Corp - Vineyard View Apartments

HomeStretch Nonprofit Housing Corporation is pleased to announce that it has secured financing of eight affordable rentals on Marek Rd in Sutton’s Bay, Michigan. Groundbreaking for the “Vineyard View Apartments” is scheduled for Thursday, December 22, 2022, at 12:00 noon at 525 N. Marek Rd, Sutton’s Bay.

 

The development began in July of 2020 with a 2.6-acre land donation from the Leelanau Land Bank Authority for affordable housing. Funding of the project is secured through a $400,000 AHP Grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis, $400,000 from the State of Michigan, $645,000 of donations from local individuals and organizations such as Leelanau Christian Neighbors, Rotary Charities, plus a $75,000 grant from Northwestern Michigan Community Agency, and $50,000 from the Leelanau Township Community Foundation.  This is really a project funded by the generosity of Leelanau County residents and organizations that have are dedicated to helping others, said Jonathan Stimson, Director of Homestretch.

 

The townhouse style units will consist of two bedrooms and 1.5 baths for residents earning 30 – 80 % of the Area Median Income (AMI).  HomeStretch is the General Contractor for the new construction and solicits contracts for all trades in minority and women owned businesses, as well as Section 3 residents or Section 3 business concerns. All are encouraged to make services known and available if licensed and insured.

 

The Vineyard View Apartments are expected to be completed and ready for occupancy during late Fall of 2023 and HomeStretch will be accepting applications beginning in August of  2023. The project will be our 19th development, bringing a total of 126 affordable homes to the Grand Traverse Region. HomeStretch has an additional 78 units in its pipeline.
